EVIE GATES, VINITA OKLAHOMA (CREATOR OF THE YOUTH GOAT CAMPS)
YOUTH MARKET GOAT CAMP INSTRUCTOR
Evie Gates began her youth career in the Oklahoma Youth Meat Goat show arena. She enjoyed showing market goats, was extremely successful in showmanship, and went on to get involved in the breeding aspects of the Boer Goat. Evie was very active as a youth in the ABGA. She was the reporter on the JABGA (Junior American Boer Goat Association) Board of Directors, for four years, which was a youth leadership building experience. She also volunteered at the ABGA National Show each year, to understand the inner workings of a larger show. She has had an expansive youth show career in the breeding side with multiple awards in local, regional, state, and national level in showmanship, breeding and market shows.
Evie has worked hard and honestly, in a industry she has been passionate about since childhood. Her dedication and time are devoted to helping others as much as she can.
If you raise goats, there is a way to touch each part of the industry. Evie has spent time working with adults and children, invited to present clinics on showing and grooming, all over the USA, teaching others what she has been taught and used within the industry to be successful with high quality animals. The opportunity to teach the youth how to be good stewards in the industry is something she has done for years. Any parent that has had her work with their children, will tell you, she has an expectation and asks for it in kindness. Watch your kids excel.
YOUTH LEADER TEAM
Bailee Vogel
Hi my name is Bailee Vogel and I’m 15 years old. I am from Marshall, Missouri and I have been showing goats for 5 years. I go to school at Sacred heart high school in Sedalia.
I have really enjoyed going to the Youth Market Goat Camp. I have learned so much about showmanship and goat care. I am looking forward to working with other kids.
The showmanship camp really helped me find the spark in goat showing. I’m excited to help the younger kids learn and find joy in this sport we all love. I’m very excited to be part of the team. Thank you to all the ladies of the Youth Goat Camp team that make this camp happen.
Tatem Nichols
My name is Tatem Nichols, I am 14 years old and I have been showing goats for 5 years. I am a Freshman at Hallsville High School and I live on a farm with my family called Hidden Acres Farms. We own goats, chickens, cats, dogs, horses, and even a mule. I have enjoyed my time showing goats and I have learned a bunch. I have learned leadership, responsibility, showmanship, sportsmanship and so much more with goats! Goat camp helped me grow and be able to become a better showman. They helped me to learn how to take care of and proper showmanship and so much more! I cannot wait to help everyone learn, grow, take care of your animal, and so much more with your goats!
Hildie Portell
Hello, my name is HildiePortell. I am 19 years old and I currently work in the biotechnology field with hopes to pursue a career as a Veterinarian Technician.
I’ve been showing livestock for 11 years. I show goats, lambs and pigs. Over these years, my love and passion for the livestock industry grew stronger. I attend shows April-September all across the state of Missouri, and surrounding states. I am fortunate enough to say that I’ve accomplished more than a few of my goals, one being high point champion of the Southern Missouri Jackpot series two years consecutively (2022-2023). Another being 4th overall lamb showman at the Missouri State Fair, and 4th overall goat showman at the Missouri State Fair. That being said, I want nothing more than to be able to share my knowledge and help others achieve their dreams, and accomplish their goals. The livestock industry has brought incredible people, endless opportunities and unforgettable memories into my life. Teaching showmanship is one of my greatest joys, I truly love getting to watch the younger generation find their talent. I believe it is not about the banners or the buckles, but about the lessons learned and the forever cherished memories. Something like what Tim McGraw said, “Let yourself feel the pride, but also stay humble and kind.” After my show career, I plan to continue to teach and make an impact in each and every way possible. I look forward to seeing everyone at the clinic this year!

Goat Trivia Contest
The Youth Team leaders will have a fun time with the other youth, as they break up into teams and have a Goat Trivia Contest. The youth will join teams and help one another answer questions about goats, husbandry, anatomy, feeds & feeding, etc. This is so much fun and there is a prize for the winning team members. No worries about being selected for a team, we actually create the teams with the names and ages of the youth, so each team is well balanced.
Youth may participate in everything that is offered during camp and can sign up at 8am each morning for the days activities.
Bring a costume for the Costume Contest!! This is so much FUN!
